Another Van Full of Supplies for Eswatini

Missions has always been at the heart of the Church of the Nazarene. One of the ways Canada Central continues to live that out is through the GO Team serving in Eswatini this summer.

Marg, our NYI President and coordinator of the GO Team, recently filled another van full of donated supplies that will travel with the team this June. Every year, it is encouraging to see churches, groups and individuals across our district come together to support Nazarene ministries in Eswatini in such practical and meaningful ways.

This year, the team has been collecting resources for five Nazarene primary schools and the five preschools connected to them. Donations include learning toys, books, fine and gross motor skill activities, soccer balls, basketballs, skipping ropes and classroom materials like bulletin board supplies, flash cards and scissors.

One of the goals this year has been to bring enough pens and pencils for the more than 2,800 students in these schools, along with red pens for the 97 teachers the team will meet.

Canada Central churches have also donated clothing for pastors serving across four Nazarene districts in Eswatini. Many of these Nazarene mission sites were originally planted with a holistic vision for ministry, including a church, school and medical clinic working together to serve the community. Pastors regularly visit the schools to lead devotional times with students during morning assembly.

The team will also deliver hand-knit baby sweaters and blankets to Raleigh Fitkin Memorial Hospital in Manzini, along with medical supplies and mobility aids. During a visit with the HIV/AIDS Task Force, the team will distribute blankets, baby items and much-needed adult diapers to families in rural communities.

This year’s GO Team includes 12 people from Ontario and Quebec ranging in age from 13 to over 70. The team departs June 28 and returns July 12. Before leaving, they will gather for a “packing party” on May 30 where every checked suitcase will be filled with donated supplies for the journey.

Thank you to Rosewood, Crown Point, Newmarket, Holland Landing, Altona Connect, Cambridge, Kennedy Road, the Cameo Ladies Group, the University of Waterloo, Shakira and many private donors who have helped make this possible.

These gifts may seem small, but they communicate something powerful. A pencil, blanket or soccer ball reminds someone they are seen, loved and remembered. Most of all, these acts of generosity point people to the love and care of Christ through His Church.

How You Can Get Involved

Please pray for:

  • Safe travel and good health for the GO Team

  • Strong relationships with the schools, churches and communities they visit

  • Encouragement for pastors, teachers and families in Eswatini
