Pastor Hany Boghossian shared a wonderful report from Sunday’s baptism service at Armenian Emmanuel Church in Toronto:

“We baptized 11 people yesterday (2 households of 4 each + a mother and son + 2 young adults)!”

In the Church of the Nazarene, baptism is a sacrament commanded by Jesus that marks a believer’s faith in Christ and their welcome into the church family. It is an outward sign of God’s grace at work in a life and a public declaration of belonging to Jesus.

February is Alabaster Month!

February is a time for our churches to take part in the Church of the Nazarene Alabaster Offering. Alabaster supports the purchase and building of ministry spaces around the globe, including churches, parsonages, missionary homes, and training centres. These spaces help local ministry take root and serve communities well.

Your church can participate by receiving a special Alabaster offering during February and praying for the churches and missionaries who will use these spaces for God’s work.

On Sunday, January 25th, DS Steve Ottley had the joy of visiting Ottawa Stonehaven Community Church. Pastor Kaleb and Gwen Jewell serve faithfully as Lead Pastors, and it is evident that God is blessing their ministry with wonderful fruit—both spiritually and numerically.

Stonehaven is experiencing meaningful growth, including a thriving Children’s Ministry that averages around 50 children each Sunday. What a powerful testimony to the next generation being reached and discipled!

Stonehaven is also making a beautiful impact in the Kanata community. For the past three years, their city councillor has sponsored the church’s Christmas Tree as one of Kanata’s official Community Trees. Each year, the community gathers for a special tree-lighting celebration—complete with carol singing, hot chocolate, and a joyful countdown as the lights shine bright.

We are deeply grateful for all God is doing through Stonehaven Community Church, and we celebrate the continued influence and momentum of this vibrant congregation.

Pastor Grant Verdoold, pastor of Cedardale Church in Pefferlaw, has been walking with a Persian-speaking group, discipling them as they grow in their faith in Jesus.

He recently shared these photos and a glimpse of what God is doing as people gather to pray, open Scripture, and encourage one another.

We thank God for pastors who stay rooted in their communities and for the quiet work of disciple-making that is bearing fruit across Ontario. We praise God for the way He is drawing people to himself and building His church.

Pastor Gaston and Lucy Echeguia were part of our Canada Central District. They became Sponsored Missionaries to Spain two years ago. Their status has changed from Sponsored Missionaries to Pastor on the Spain District. They recently shared some exciting news with us. Their church hosted the Spain District Assembly this year in their new Church facility in Sevilla, Spain . We celebrate with the Echeguias and the Spain District.

The District Ministry Training Centre (DMTC) is a ministry of Canada Central District.

It exists for people across our churches who sense a call to ministry and need accessible, affordable training. Courses fit busy schedules and offer solid biblical grounding with practical skills for ministry in churches, neighbourhoods, workplaces, and communities.

The DMTC serves lay leaders and those exploring a call, and pastors can complete required lifelong learning credits at no cost. Upcoming courses include Global Evangelism in January and Spiritual Formation in March.

DS Steve Ottley visited Windsor this past Sunday, for a joint service with Devonwood Community Church and La Famille De Dieu Eglise Du Nazaréen.

In 2024, Pastor John Neposlan and Devonwood Community Church opened up its door to Pastor Frantz Descorias and our newest Haitian Church Plant. This has developed into a wonderful partnership in ministry as displayed in the joint service on Sunday, followed by a wonderful pot luck meal, which takes place every second Sunday of the month.

Devonwood has recently opened their doors to another group from Myanmar.

God is blessing these works in Windsor.

A small team from our district will be travelling to Cuba on January 15 to visit Nazarene churches and spend time with our brothers and sisters there.

Please pray for Pastor Donna and the team as they travel and serve. Pray for the churches they will visit and for God’s encouragement and provision for believers in Cuba.

A new year invites us to remember who God is. He reigns. He is faithful and unchanging, steady in every season. Our confidence rests in the Lord who holds all things together.

We step into this year as a district with a shared heart. To proclaim the saving grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. To walk with people as they grow as His disciples. To see our churches become healthy places where faith is formed, leaders are raised, and communities are loved.

We trust God to guide us, shape us, and use our churches for His purposes in the year ahead.

They do this annually, allowing everyone to reflect on the past year and renew their covenant with the Lord for the new year. One source describes a Wesley Covenant Service as follows: A special worship service, often held at New Year’s, where Christians renew their commitment (covenant) with God, focusing on self-examination, dedication, and recommitting to serve Jesus, seeing the relationship as a “marriage” to God, emphasizing grace, forgiveness, and finding strength in Christ, not self, as outlined by John Wesley.

Christmas Eve at Erie Street Church was special.

Associate Pastor Stephanie hosted the service. Around 45 people gathered to worship and hear the good news of Jesus’ birth.

We thank God for the faithful work happening at Erie Street and for a church serving its Collingwood community.

Georgian Bay Missional Zone Christmas Gathering.

On Thursday, December 18th, the Georgian Bay Missional Zone had its annual Christmas Gathering for Pastors and Leaders. Thanks to Pastor Donna, the Zone Facilitator, for coordinating the event, and to her and her husband Darryl, for hosting the gathering. Unfortunately, a couple of our pastors were under the weather and could not attend. Pray for all those who are struggling with flus this time of year.

Riverview Christian Camp Update

As part of the strategic plan that emerged from the Riverview Christian Camp Visioning Committee, convened in early 2025, it was recommended that an Executive Director be appointed to oversee the operations of the Camp.

Following the recommendation of the Riverview Camp Board, the District Advisory Board approved the hiring of Sandeep Mukhiya to serve in this role. Sandeep and his wife, Nicole, are actively involved with Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (NCM). Nicole serves as Project Manager for NCM Canada, and Sandeep has been part of the NCM team in Nepal. Together, they have played a significant role in the impactful work NCM carries out around the world.

We are pleased to welcome Sandeep and Nicole to the Riverview Christian Camp team. Please join us in praying for Sandeep as he assumes this new role in the coming year.

Last week several pastors on our district came together for an information luncheon to learn more about Encuentro Missions.

In summer 2027 youth from across North America are heading to Toronto for a major mission event with Encuentro Missions, and they're looking for ministry opportunities.

The four partner churches had a combined service on Sunday. Barrie Ferris Lane and Barrie Pan de Vida were in person while Collingwood Erie Street and Markdale joined by live stream. Pastor Mark Coulter shared — “The Spirit of God was powerful in the service today.” They also had that Christmas Banquet Sunday evening.

The first Sunday of Advent was marked by a Spirit-filled service, an uplifting message from Mathieu, and a special time around the Lord’s Supper led by Pastor Steve.

Volunteers gathered to pack and send more than 200 gift bags, along with additional items for the wider community. Pastor Juan Carlos and his team delivered everything.

We’re grateful for the generosity of our churches across the Canada Central District and for the support of NCM Canada. This project reflects our shared desire to walk in reconciliation, serve with humility, and strengthen our relationship with the Mishkeegogemang First Nation.

Pastor Steve joined CEDARDALE CHURCH OF THE NAZARENE in Pefferlaw last week to celebrate Pastor Grant Verdoold’s 65th birthday. It was a great opportunity to honour his steady leadership, his deep heart for the Pefferlaw community, and the many ways he has served over the years.

We also celebrate Cedardale Church and the faithful ministry they carry in their community. We thank God for Pastor Grant, the church family, and the work the Lord continues to do through them.

This year they found a new location due to high demand. The space filled and many young people responded to the Gospel, seeking prayer, guidance, and committing their lives to Christ. Moments like this remind us why investing in youth ministry matters. God is at work among the next generation.

In 2020 Toronto had 7,500 unhoused people. Today there are 15,000.

You may not have known the numbers, yet you likely notice someone each time you exit a highway. These are the people we serve.

Many come in carrying large backpacks, not for hiking but because it holds everything they own. One man always sets his bag down and heads to the washroom. He wants to shave, brush his teeth, do his hair, and hold on to dignity. He loves to talk about God and welcomes prayer. Another guest lived in a basement apartment until the owners chose to demolish and renovate. She ended up in a tent with her teenage children, huddled over a laptop for virtual school.

The Sharing Place gives warm meals, groceries, clothing, counselling, and hope. We share the words of Jesus with every person who walks in. It can feel harder for people to believe right now, but we keep praying. A few weeks ago many of us gathered with our families and named what we were thankful for. My children said family. As my four-year-old prayed, I realized food and shelter were right behind family.

This year we will again prepare Christmas hampers and would love your help. I am also doing something new. On November 27, the night before Black Friday, I will sleep outside our church. Not to line up for a new TV but to raise awareness and to experience even a small glimpse of what many face daily.

I am a true city person. I love pavement, not camping. I have only slept in a tent once, when my young son begged me to try it. We never did it again. I never understood leaving a warm bed for the cold. Yet as we approach Christmas, I remember that Jesus left the perfection of heaven to dwell with us out of love. As Charles Wesley wrote, “Come, thou long expected Jesus.”

Please consider participating, giving, or praying with us. Pray for our unhoused neighbours. Pray that God speaks to them. And please pray for Stephen, the city boy preparing to camp for compassion.
