Today we celebrate the women across our district who faithfully serve the Kingdom as pastors, leaders, teachers, ministry directors, mentors, missionaries, volunteers, and disciple-makers.

Thank you for the ways you lead with wisdom, teach God’s Word, care for people, pray faithfully, and help shape the Church. Your voice, gifts, compassion, and leadership matter deeply in the life of our churches.

Pray for clarity as they discern next steps in this restart season. Ask God to give them wisdom as they use their facility as a place of prayer, welcome, and community connection. Pray that they would understand their neighbourhood well, respond to real needs, and have courage to step out in faith as they explore new ways of ministry. Pray for a strong foundation of prayer and for the right people and partnerships to join in the work God is leading.

Congratulations to Pastor Grant and Karen Verdoold. DS Steve Ottley met with the Cedardale Church Board on April 23rd for the 4 year Church/Pastoral Relationship Review. It was a positive meeting of examining the way the Lord is moving in and through the Cedardale Church Family.

Renew Ladies Retreat

April 17-19, a wonderful group of ladies gathered at Jackson’s Point in Sutton for the Renew Ladies Retreat. Thanks to Co-Chairs, Pastor Gena Torres and Melanie Finkleman, and the Renew Retreat Committee for planning and leading a spirit filled retreat. The feedback has been extremely positive.

Our Canada Central District Pastors gathered at Rosewood Church in Scarborough for our Annual Clergy Day. The main speaker was Rev Davidson Bohorequez. He presented a very helpful workshop on community outreach. Rev Bohorequez is current work on his PhD at Wycliffe College, UofT.

On Sunday, April 12th, DS Steve Ottley had the joy of worshipping with our Egypt Church congregation. We are deeply grateful for this faithful rural ministry located an hour north of Toronto. Co-Pastors Doug and Jeannie Neufeld have faithfully served Egypt Church for 39 years, and we give thanks to God for their steadfast leadership and love for His people.

God continues to use this devoted congregation in meaningful ways within their community. During the worship service, Pastor Doug shared several beautiful examples of how the Lord has been at work through the ministry of Egypt Church:

Throughout the Advent and Christmas season, the congregation collected donations of mini chocolate bars and individually wrapped candy, with a goal of preparing 600 Christmas candy bags for distribution through the Georgina Food Pantry. By God’s grace, that goal was surpassed, and 775 candy bags were prepared and distributed.
Egypt Church also held a special collection of items for the Eswatini Go Team, hoping to prepare 7 boxes to be sent through the Sea-Can shipping container. Through the generous giving of the congregation, 28 boxes of supplies were gathered and delivered to the Eswatini depot for shipment.

We also celebrate a very special milestone in the life of the congregation. Long-time member and dearly loved sister in Christ, Betty Wiltshire, recently celebrated her 100th birthday. Her life is a beautiful testimony to the faithfulness of God and to a heart devoted to the Spirit of Jesus.

We praise God for the witness and ministry of Egypt Church and for the many ways His grace continues to flow through this faithful congregation.

On Sunday, DS Steve and Pat Ottley join Pastor Lena and Caleb to celebrate Resurrection Sunday. It was a meaningful time of worship.

DS Steve Ottley visited our Ottawa Haitian Church on Sunday, March 29th. Pastor André and Anne Rose Chérazard faithfully lead this growing and vibrant congregation.

As a result of recent immigration challenges in the United States and the ongoing difficulties in Haiti, many Haitians have relocated to the Ottawa area. In response, the church has experienced significant growth in both attendance and ministry opportunities.

The congregation has been actively assisting refugee families with housing and food support. The District was also able to partner with NCM Canada to secure a grant to help strengthen this important ministry.

In addition, the church offers a number of vital ministries to the Haitian community, including a food bank, income tax return assistance (they are certified by the CRA), and workshops on topics such as mental health, parenting, and other practical life needs. Professionals from the Ottawa community regularly come to the church to lead these workshops.

The reality is that the rented facility they are currently using is no longer adequate for their growing needs. They have been faithfully raising funds toward the purchase of their own facility.

Please join us in prayer that God will provide a suitable place for this ministry to continue to flourish and that the necessary funding will be secured.

There was a wonderful spirit in the meeting as it was obvious that the relationship between Pastors Doug and Jeannie and church board is healthy.

It has been 39 years that Pastors Doug and Jeannie have been co-pastoring the Egypt Church — Praise God! The Church board has extended the their call for another 4 years. May the Lord continue to bless the ministry of this wonderful church family.

On Sunday, March 22, D.S. Steve Ottley met with Pastor Mark and the Barrie Ferris Lane Church Board for their quadrennial Church/Pastoral Relationship Review. A review of the church’s ministries and core values affirmed that the congregation is vibrant and healthy, including a strong and positive pastoral relationship. The review followed a wonderful worship service.

We praise God for the impact the Ferris Lane congregation is having in the region as Pastor Mark also provides oversight to our Markdale and Collingwood Erie Street congregations. The church has also partnered with our Bradford Spanish Church to plant the Barrie Pan de Vida Spanish Church, which meets in the Ferris Lane facility.

In addition, Ferris Lane Church operates the second-largest childcare centre in Barrie, and God continues to bless this important ministry.

At the conclusion of the review, the Church Board extended Pastor Mark’s call to serve Barrie Ferris Lane Church for another four-year term.

Please pray for the Kolapore congregation as they continue to serve the community where God has placed them. Ask the Lord to strengthen their witness, deepen their love for one another, and use their church to point people to Jesus.

Pray also for Pastor Leigh and Joyce in these days. Ask God to give them health and strength as they carry out the work He has called them to do. May He sustain them, guide them, and help them serve with faithfulness and joy.

Let’s surround Kolapore Calvary in prayer this week.

This week we ask you to pray for Kolapore Calvary, led by Pastors Leigh and Joyce Straiton.

Please pray for the Kolapore congregation as they continue to serve the community where God has placed them. Ask the Lord to strengthen their witness, deepen their love for one another, and use their church to point people to Jesus.

Pray also for Pastor Leigh and Joyce in these days. Ask God to give them health and strength as they carry out the work He has called them to do. May He sustain them, guide them, and help them serve with faithfulness and joy.

Holy Saturday – Grace in Waiting

This is the day of silence, waiting, and apparent absence. Yet God is still at work.

This day reminds all of us,and especially those who may be experiencing a difficult season of life through grief, illness, uncertainty, or unanswered prayer, that God is still moving in the silence.

I pray that you and your people will sit in that silence with the sure hope that God journeys with you. It was Francis de Sales who said:

“Do not look forward to what may happen tomorrow; the same everlasting Father who cares for you today [and I would add, who died for you] will take care of you tomorrow and every day. Either He will shield you from suffering, or He will give you unfailing strength to bear it. Be at peace, then, put aside all anxious thoughts and imaginations, and say continually: The Lord is my strength and shield; my heart has trusted in Him and I am helped. He is not only with me, but in me and I in Him.”

As our churches preach Christ crucified this Good Friday, may the power of the Holy Spirit awaken the hearts of those who need to be drawn to a place of repentance. May we all be filled with gratitude as we re-surrender to Jesus and seek His power to live lives marked by holy love for God and for others.

On Sunday, March 15th, D.S. Steve Ottley visited our Armenian Emmanuel Church (City River) with Pastor Hany and Sylva Boghossian. This vibrant congregation meets at the City of David Messianic Synagogue in Thornhill. The Holy Spirit was very evident in the service as we worshiped and ministered to a congregation that has experienced a challenging season, including being directly affected by the war in Iran. A number of their members are originally from Iran and have family members back home that they are extremely concerned about. Please be in prayer for them.

This week we invite you to pray for Ottawa Evangelical Haitian Church, led by Pastor Andre and Ann Rose Cherazard.

Pray for Pastor Andre and Ann Rose as they shepherd this growing congregation. Ask the Lord to give them wisdom, strength, and joy as they lead.

Pray that the church would be a bright witness in their community. May they reflect Christ clearly and be a light where the Lord has placed them.
